My heritage language has never really affected me. All I remember was that when I was in pre-school/elementary school, sometimes I would mix up English and Lithuanian for certain words but not very often. I was never made fun of for knowing another language. If anything, people typically thought it was cool that I know one. It has benefited me outside of school because I can speak it with my parents and other family members. It is also helpful when I travel to Lithuania because I can understand and have a basic conversation with people. My parents and I will also talk in Lithuanian when we go to stores or restaurants so that only we understand what is going on.
