It was helpful when learning the different sounds of other languages as well as music. Because of the different accent marks used in my HL I can hear slight nuances in sounds especially in other languages. I took French in school and I think it was easier to pick up another language when already knowing 2 other languages. The different accents on a similar word was not a new concept to me. I am able to understand people with different accents better, which has been helpful for my roommate last year who was an international student from Nigeria. She says that any people usually have her repeat what she says a lot. I have noticed at work as well with some of my co-workers where English is not their first language. I do not have as hard of a problem as others have told me they have in understanding.
