My knowledge of my heritage language has always been a positive experience in school. I was able to communicate with my friends and other people in two different languages. It also helped me to befriend and help students transfer students that do not speak English well. Speaking my heritage language in school with friends also helped me to improve my heritage language. My heritage language has always affected my experience outside of school positively. For example, I am able to communicate with store owners or at different restaurants/shops in Chinatown if they are unable to speak English. I am also able to speak with the elderly that only know my heritage language. Overall, my heritage language has helped to improve my connections with others and also have been helpful in helping others.
