Because I had prior experience in speaking Spanish, I am able to benefit more from grammar improvement during Spanish courses and can focus on improving my skill than memorizing new words. Being able to speak Spanish has allowed me to also appreciate other aspects of school and talk with other students who primarily only speak spanish. I grew up in a mostly White and Hispanic community. I have been able to communicate with everyone that I ever wanted to and faced little barring my ability to communicate with them. I have made friends who could only speak English, just like I have made friends who could only speak Spanish. I am glad to know two different languages, especially having learned one that is so widely spoken.
