Knowing the Albanian language has made my experience significantly different than if I had not known it. For example, learning Spanish has been made slightly easier because I understand the flexible grammatical structure that non-English languages have. As well as this, cognates have allowed for me to understand some words in Spanish that I would otherwise not know. As for problems, I would say that in my early years of elementary school, I had to complete an English Language Learner program because I did not sufficiently understand English until I was in the third grade. My knowledge of Albanian has allowed to communicate with my parents in a more personal level because it is their native language. As well as this, I am able to understand the culture and society of Albania better because I am well versed in the language that is spoken and written. I have not experienced any problems except for being criticized for not knowing the language at an advanced level by my family and other Albanians.
