Since I went to a primarily Hispanic school. My heritage language was helpful and didn’t cause a problem. The majority of my friends knew Spanish and it was easy for us to switch over from Spanish to English. If we were to say a joke in Spanish we knew what was being said and didn’t need to translate anything. It was just really nice to be able to be with people that knew both languages and were able to speak both and not just be stuck in one language. I feel that my heritage has help me in all settings especially since I live in a Mexican community where everything is primarily in Spanish. There were moments where I have had to translate for other people that didn’t know English. I feel like knowing Spanish as well as English can help not only you and your career. But it can also help your community and people around you. Knowing two languages not only helps you communicate. But it also gives you more opportunities to know different people and their cultures.
