My heritage language which is Spanish helped me in school whenever I had to translate for my parents. For example, during report card pick up I would help translate any questions my mother had and I would translate my teachers’ answers. Also, whenever there were new students who only spoke Spanish I was able to help them with the content we were learning in class. Speaking Spanish also helped me make new friends at school. Speaking Spanish has made it easy for me to communicate with my family members and greeting people in my community. I also help my family members by translating any mail they receive that is in English. Additionally, I went to church school growing up and we spoke Spanish for most of the class. Having knowledge of Spanish such as being able to write and read helped me do well in class.
