I have always had an easy time in Spanish classes whereas my peers would sometimes struggle. I’ve always enjoyed the fact that I can figure out Spanish if I need to but when I need to come up with my own sentences and keep conversations for longer than a couple minutes I get tripped up. It can be embarrassing in class if I mess up pronunciation or vocabulary because I expect better. At home I can communicate with my grandma which is very important to me since she only speaks Spanish. In my neighborhood there have always been those who speak Spanish either as their dominant or second language so I find it helpful that I can at least understand them. I have only experiences positive outcomes from my ability to understand/speak my heritage language.
