I sometimes struggle saying words in English because I only know how to say them in Spanish and vice versa so it was hard trying to ask questions. I was lucky enough to have a lot of friends who were bilingual as well so we were able to talk in both languages. I made lots of friends even though at times I feel weird talking Spanish. Another challenge was that I wasn’t taught educated Spanish but I knew Spanish so when I took Spanish it was like starting from the start and I felt stupid for not knowing when I knew I could talk Spanish. I do remember plenty of times going to stores with my mom and having to translate so it was helpful. As well as when there’s older people and they need translation too. At home my dad also wanted me to translate English mail to Spanish it was a bit tough though. My neighborhood is a latin neighborhood, it’s being gentrified at the moment, but it helped me talk more Spanish than just with my parents and siblings.
