Being able to speak and understand my heritage language has helped me to learn Spanish. While Polish and Spanish are white different from each other the two languages share some similarities. Many sounds are pronounced the same, they have a similar grammar structure, and they even have some cognates. My heritage language has helped me to establish better connections with others in the community while working my jobs. Back in my hometown there is a large Polish population, which brought about many interactions with Polish individuals at my workplaces. There were many incidents in which I was able to better help a customer since they didn’t speak English, or even just make a connection with them and provide better service because we both came from a similar background.
